Every adult who
volunteers to become a Leader or CO-leader for a Girl Scout
Troop must sign a
Citrus Council Volunteer Position
Agreement.
Once
signed the adult needs to be aware of what she/he is agreed to
do.
They have agreed to:
|
1.
Attend regular troop meetings and occasional outings -
They are expected to run the troop meetings and attend and/or
run troop outings. Leaders and their COs can share these duties
but two registered adults must be at every meeting and/or
outing. The latter may need more depending on the type of outing
and the age of the girls.
|
2.
Account for the troop/group finances -
Leaders are
expected to turn in
Finance Reports twice a
year. To do so they need to save all their receipts and record
expenses on a
Detailed Cash Sheet.
They must also have a
Bank
Account.
|
3.
Plan with leader/assistant leader and girl troop members
for troop government and program -
Girl Scouts is all
about teaching the girls to become independent leaders in our
society. To do so they must learn to run their own troop. See
Troop Government.
|
4.
Guide girls in planning, carrying out and
evaluating activities in ways which help them develop values,
foster a sense of self worth, related to others and contribute
to their communities -
Be a good role model. Encourage
Community
Service activities.
|
5.
Make provision for basic membership registration; see that
troop and financial records are accurately maintained including
those on awards and participation; file reports promptly -
Keep good troop records or delegate someone on the troop
committee to do so.
|
6.
Encourage inter-troop activities and participation
in
Service
Unit,
area and
Council wide events -
Have your girls meet and network with other Girl Scouts.
|
7.
Maintain on ongoing relationship with the troop committee
and sponsoring group -
Recruit parents to form a troop committee and delegate tasks
to them. Maintain good
Communication
with them. Also, do service projects for your
sponsors. For those troops who meet at elementary schools - the
schools are your sponsors.
|
8.
Help each girl understand her role in the troop
- Learn to be a good listener to your girls and maintain lots
of patience as they come to understand what you expect of them.
Girls learn at different speeds so don't expect everyone to
understand everything at the same time.
|
9.
Be aware of each girl's progress and relationships with
others in the group -
Pay attention to what is going on between the girls in your troop to make sure that there is no bullying and
everyone feels included. Ensure that the girls can come to you
if they need to. Girl Scouts is for every girl not just
the popular ones.
|
10.
Help each girl understand and respect cultures different
from her own -
Teach tolerance and the knowledge that all of the cultures
that make up our country have a lot to share with each other.
|
11.
Account for the safety of the group -
Know where
your girls are at all times. Count heads repeatedly on field
trips. Read and follow Safety Wise. The girl's safety is top priority.
|
12.
Keep informed of developments in GSUSA and in Citrus
Council - Read E-Views, Leader's Magazine and mailings
that are sent out from your Service Unit Manager. Check your
e-mail frequently!!!
|
13.
Support Citrus Council's
GIFTs
for Girls campaign -
Encourage your parents to
donate.
|
14.
Take
Training Needed -
Leaders should have completed their Leadership trainings in
six months. Someone in the
troop, not necessarily the leader, needs to take Outdoor
Training and First Aid Training.
Enrichment Training is always encouraged.
|
15.
Attend regular service unit meetings -
Service Unit
Meetings are held to deliver information, give
leaders a chance to get paperwork signed or turned in and allow
networking among other leaders in the unit. The leader,
Co-Leader and/or a troop committee member of each troop should
attend the monthly unit meetings.
