Let the girls decide on
what they want to do while they are there
Have the girls look up places
to visit and bring the information to the
meeting (there are a number of the places linked to these webpages).
Hold a general discussion about what they want to see and
then vote on where to go. As the leader you might want to point out
places that you think are important such as the Andrew Low House and
the First Girl Scout National Headquarters, along with the Birthplace.
|
*Hint: A little museum viewing goes a long
way with younger girls (4th - 6th grade).
Make sure that you plan some
hands on events along with your touring. |

Make other reservations
Now
that you know what you want to visit while you are there, this is the time to start making all your other
reservations.
-
Attraction
Reservations - Almost every place will take reservations
especially for a large group. Some will require a deposit so be
prepared to send a check or give a credit card number. Make sure
to record the date you made the reservation, who you spoke to
and a confirmation number if given.
-
Restaurant
Reservations - Choose the restaurants that you want to
eat at and contact them to receive menus. Many of them have
special Girl Scout rates. Once you receive the menus have the
girls choose their meals. This is a good time to find out if any
of your girls have special dietary considerations (vegetarian,
lactose intolerant etc). Type your request up and send it to the
restaurant's manager. Make sure to keep a copy for your records.
-
Lodging
Reservations - You
can usually get a better rate if you stay a little farther from the city.
Some of the smaller cities close to Savannah are Pooler, Garden City
and Port Wentworth. They are only about 15 minutes away by highway.
A few hotels have special Girl Scout suites, some have special
rates. Check out your copy of Birthplace Bound for Girl Scout
friendly hotels.

If you have
made a reservation for a birthplace heritage visit Use
your Birthplace Reservation Number to identify your
troop when making all Savannah reservations for lodging,
meals and
other activities |
