Continue to Fine-Tune your itinerary - Use the map of Savannah to plot out how you are going to move about and park in the city while touring your points of interest. All parking in Savannah is either in parking lots/garages or on the streets with meters.

*Hint: You can purchase parking passes at the Welcome Center.

Meet with you CO-Leader(s) and make decisions on items such as... -
  • How much money should each girl bring? - It is recommended that you try to keep this fairly equal among the girls so that no one feels left out. A cap of $50 is a suggestion. It is also a good idea to have the leaders track the money in envelopes so that it doesn't get lost or all spent on the first day.

  • What should the girls wear while they are there? - One idea is to make T-shirts for the trip. That way everyone is dressed alike and will be easy to spot. Also ALWAYS have them wear their vests or sashes. Girl Scouts in Savannah get preferential treatment.

  • Assignment of Chaperones - This can include traveling groups, sleeping arrangements and touring groups. Assign girls to sleeping and traveling groups according to compatibility so that there is less friction however, during tours you might want to mix them up a bit so that all the girls have a chance to be with the different members of their troop.

  • Pick an adult to carry the contact cell phone - This will be the number that the parents at home will use to contact you during the trip.

Keep the girls updated about what arrangements have been made - Give them little pep talks telling them how much they have earned to date and what it has paid for (i.e. transportation (getting there), lodging (staying there) etc.). If your girls are older you can even have them make some of the reservations but make sure that they are supervised while doing it.

Continue to do Money-Earning events - Make sure that each girl participates in at least 3/4 of these. You might even make it a criteria for going on the trip.

Have another Savannah Parent's Meeting - Remind parents about health forms that they need to turn in - parents will often set the papers aside and forget about them until the last minute. If you jog their memories from time to time you will get the information faster. The less you have to collect from them a the departure date the better. Also update them on where the plans stand at present and pass out preliminary itineraries.
