Go over Travel/Hotel
security precautions and
expected behavior with your
girls -
This is a good time to have them sign the pledge cards and
the
Girl Out of
Trip Contract
( You will
want to edit it for your troop requirements). Remind them that,
not only are they representing themselves and their troop while they
are in Savannah but the whole Girl Scout Organization also.
Send out a clothing list
- Incorporate the
clothing ideas that you discussed with your CO-Leader(s). The girls
should ALWAYS be identified as Girl
Scouts while they are on the trip. It is a nice idea to have them in
full uniform on the day that they go to the Juliette Low Birthplace.
Also include a list of items that they should carry with them on the trip. Suggestions are:
-
Phone
cards or a cell phone
-
A form of
identification and their Girl Scout membership cards
-
A small
first aid kit (band-aids and antiseptic swipe)
-
Kleenex
-
Postcard
stamps
-
Disposable
cameras - at least three is recommended
They could carry
these items in a fanny pack along with their personal funds for
spending. Explain to the girls that they need to pack in luggage as
small as possible for car packing purposes, especially if you are
carrying sleeping bags and/or tents.
Confirm that each girl's
emergency information is up to date -
Family circumstances change constantly and you need the
MOST CURRENT information while you are away. Make sure that you have a home phone,
work phone and cell phone for each family. Also any medical or physical
conditions (i.e. asthma, fear of darkness, etc). These are things that
you need to take in consideration on the trip. A good idea is to put all
this information in an organized format for easy carrying on the trip
such as a booklet. You will need to carry it with you at all times
during the trip.
Make up First-Aid Kits for
each vehicle -
This is if
you are going by private cars. Also make sure that you recheck the
troop's first aid kit. Check the list in Safety-Wise (pgs 38-39). It
might be a good idea to include menstrual pads for any emergencies
on the trip.
Continue to fine-tune your
itinerary -
You will be
doing this right up to the end so don't schedule too tightly. Other
than reservation times, keep it flexible to allow for minor emergencies
such as car trouble or traffic. It's better to have too much time on
your hands than to spend it racing from one tour to another. You can use
the down time for photographing, seeing other parts of the city (it's a
beautiful place) or just relaxing.
Continue your
money-earning events and keep the girls updated as to
where they stand on their monetary goals -
It's
better to do lot of money-earning events up front so if you do not
earn enough you have time to schedule more. Or if you have reached your
goal you can stop, schedule another event or add some perks to the trip
such as t-shirts from the Birthplace. These are less expensive if you
order them ahead of time.
