Recruit Chaperones
- Following
Safety-Wise standards make sure that you have enough adults for your
girls. Chaperones MUST be Women.
Men may come on the trip but they cannot do chaperone duty because
they cannot ever be left alone with any of the girls except their own
daughter.
|
*All adults who
chaperone on the trip must be registered and have
background checks. |
Choose a First-Aider and
Outdoor Person -
From your list of
chaperones. It is recommended that these be two
different people and more than one First Aider is a
plus++. Classes are available during the year. Check
your
Adventures in Training or the
Training
webpage for dates.
Choose an Emergency
Contact Person -
Pick this person from one of the
parents who are staying home. A good choice would be someone with a
cell phone that stays on all the time so that they are readily
available in case of emergencies.
Decide on your Mode of
Transportation -
If you plan
to go by private vehicles, choose drivers and make sure that you have
a backup vehicle. Each of the drivers will need to give you their:
Talk to your girls
about Savannah and Juliette Gordon Low -
Explain to
them why the city is so important to Girl Scouting. Give them some
background on Juliette Gordon Low. Also if they are
Juniors, a good badge to earn at this time is "Girl Scouting in the
USA". Girls of all level's can earn the Juliette's Legacy Patch
using
Juliette's Legacy Guidebook
that teaches about how Girl Scouting was back then.
Plan money-earning
activities -
A good idea would be
to choose a Money Earning Events chairman from your parents to help you.
You also might want to open a saving account so that the money the girls
raise can earn interest through the year(s).
|
*In order to be
eligible to hold money earning events your troop
must participate in
Council fund-raising campaigns:QSP, Nut Program and Cookie
sales. |
Have a Special Savannah
Parent's Meeting -
It is important
to keep the parents updated on what is being planned. They are
entrusting you with their children on a trip out of state and should
know all that it entails. Also if you are planning on assessing a
fee for each girl, the parents need to know what they are paying for
and have time to make the payments in installments.
Fill out the
Preliminary Forms -
You will need to submit the following
three forms to the SUM to sign. Once she has signed them you will
need to mail them to Rachel Humphrey, GSCC, 341 N. Mills Ave.,
Orlando, FL 32803
|
*Remember
this is a "preliminary" itinerary and can be altered if
you plans change. |
