Burned Out? Not Me!

Seven Steps for Managing Volunteer Time from Leader Magazine

1. Take time to learn about Girl Scouting while slowly increasing your responsibilities. Avoid doing too much too soon.

2. Apply the same progression chart that your girls use, to yourself. Don't try to cram all your training into one year.

3. Choose projects and activities carefully. Don't hesitate to say "no" to a task or feel compelled to involve your troop in every activity offered by our council or service unit.

4. Give yourself a chance to recharge. Back away for a while if you feel drained.

5. Recruit help. Don't try to do everything on your own. Having a great Co-Leader is ideal, but some of the best resources any leader could have are program aides, trained teenage Girl Scout eager to assist.

6. Take advantage of service unit meetings to connect with other leaders.

7. Ask fellow volunteers for advice and don't hesitate to share your frustrations and concerns. Chances are they've been there.
