Below is a chart of Non- Girl Scout Campgrounds that have been recommended by leaders in the Green Oaks Service Unit. Click for Citrus Council Properties

Anastasia State Recreation Area St. Augustine
  • Pluses - Even though the campground is on the ocean the camping sites are very shaded and there are lots of hiking trails. St. Augustine is also nearby for sightseeing and shopping.

  • Drawbacks - There are no lifeguards and camping is in tents only

Blue Springs Park  Orange City
  • Pluses - Offers tents and cabins. The cabins are heated which makes it great since the best time to see the Manatees is in January. It also has a canoe rental and a great location for hiking. Nearby is DeLeon Springs which has hiking and great restaurant where you can cook your own breakfast on a table.
 Ft. Wilderness Disney World, Orlando
  • Pluses - Heated pool with lifeguards, hay rides, horse back riding, hiking trails, beach front, canoeing, bus service, bathhouses etc.

  • Drawbacks - Expensive, The best place to pitch tents is in Creekside Meadow which doesn't have power outlets. Other sites are mostly for RV's though one large or two small tents can be put on them

Lake Ashby Park Volusia County
  • Pluses -Each campsite is equipped with a fire ring, lantern-hook pole, grill and groomed sand. All are in proximity of restrooms. The park offers canoeing, fishing, lake swimming, nature trails, a playground and historical site. There are also pavilions

  • Drawbacks - Camping is in tents only and there are no lifeguards

Jetty Park Port Canaveral
  • Pluses - Camping is near a beach front with lifeguards, and there is a fishing area. It's a fun place to watch the cruise ships and others go in and out. There is a store for grocery purposes and a snack bar by the beach

  • Drawbacks - There is no forest areas here for nature hikes etc.

Kelly Park  Apopka
  • Pluses - Tent camping, pavilions, volleyball courts, nature trails, playground, picnic areas with grills and swimming & tubing in the natural spring. Canoeing renting nearby with shuttle service.

  • Drawbacks - Occasionally there are bears

Moss Park Lake Nona Area

  • Pluses - . This is a nice spot for first time tent camping since it is not too far from home or civilization. Each site has a picnic bench and grill with bathhouses nearby. There is a lake for swimming however you need to check on whether or not lifeguards will be present. You can take nature walks through the park or play games in the big field. There is a pavilion that can be rented. Fishing is also permitted but you must bring your own equipment. The Sand Hill Cranes walk freely around the park and are a fun sight to see.

  • Drawbacks - It can get very hot in the spring/summer times so get a site with shade. Also there are A LOT of creatures at Moss Park that will invade your campsite if you are not prepared - raccoons, armadillos etc. 

Turkey Lake Park Orlando
  • Pluses - Has cabins and big open area to pitch tents along with a large screened pavilion with picnic tables and cooking area inside, bathhouse with showers, large swimming pool with lifeguards, places to hike, large playground, petting farm and bike areas

  • Drawbacks - They always insist that Council send them a special insurance form when you camp. The Membership  Marketing Manager from Council can handle this.

Wekiwa State Park Apopka Pluses - Nice sites with water and electric hookups. It offers canoeing on the Wekiva river. You can also swim in the springs.
